Police in Ondo State have arrested members of a gang that specialised in stealing vehicles in Akure and its environs.
The police added that five suspected stolen vehicles were recovered in the process.
Two suspects, Salisu Adebayo, 40 and Gbenga Adebowale, 36, are said to be currently assisting the police in tracking others members of the gang.
Police spokesman, Wole Ogodo, said efforts to track the suspects began when on February 5, two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace, marked, XY 856 AGF, and a Toyota Hummer Bus, with number plate, AGL 157XG, were reported stolen where they were parked in Akure.
He said the anti-car theft department of the State Criminal Investigation Department apprehended the suspects, which resulted in the recovery of the two vehicles.
He said, “Further investigations led to the recovery of three other vehicles earlier stolen by the Adebowale-led gang.
“The vehicles recovered comprised a Toyota Camry wagon and two Hummer buses.”
Ogodo said investigations were still ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and to recover more vehicles.
