N9m scam: Court threatens to revoke Polish woman’s bail

An Abuja High Court on Thursday threatened to revoke the bail it granted to a Polish woman, Dora Gilmaska, charged with the issuance of N9 million dud cheque.

Justice Abubakar Umar issued the threat when counsel to the accused, Mr innocent Charles, informed the court that his client was absent in court because she suffered a miscarriage.

Charles said the doctor put her on one month bed rest as a result of the ill-health.

The judge said, “We can grant an adjournment on the grounds of ill-health.

“You can take a date after March 18, because the medical report she sent from the University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital is dated February 18.

“So, that will give her one month clear and if she did not appear on the next date of hearing, then we will go ahead and revoke her bail,” he said.

Earlier, counsel to the EFCC, Mr Sam Ugwuegulam, urged the court to revoke the bail of the accused person.

“This is not the first time that the accused has refused to show up for trial. It is neither the fourth,” he said.

Ugwuegulam also prayed for an order of the court directing the surety of the accused person to produce her or risk arrest.

Umar adjourned the case to March 27 for hearing.

The EFCC is prosecuting Gilmaska, Executive Officer of Icon Media and Marketing Agency Limited, for allegedly forging and issuing a dud cheque of N9 million to one Tayo Olugbemi in 2012.
