Judiciary workers union orders warning strike from March 12

The National Executive Council of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria  on Thursday ordered its members to begin a two-day nationwide warning strike from Wednesday,  March 12 to Friday March 14.

It also ordered the closure of all gates of courts and judiciary outfits, adding that its members shall withdraw their services within
the period.

The decision followed JUSUN’s three-day NEC meeting in Ilorin, Kwara State.

JUSUN’s National President, Mustapha Adamu, who read the communique, which was signed by him and the General Secretary, I. M Adetola, said the directive was informed by the failure of government to pay funds accruable to states’ judiciary in the Federation Account directly to the heads of courts as directed by the court.

It stated that  a court order of  January 13,  2014, declared the piece-meal payment/allocations of funds through the state Ministries of Finance to the states’ judiciary  as “unconstitutional, unprocedural, cumbersome, null and void.”

The court further stated that such should stop forthwith.

JUSUN claimed that instead of the judgment debtors -the Attorney General of the Federation and state governors implementing the judgement- allegedly resorted to threatening the Heads of Courts and deducting salaries of unions’ executives and members in their respective states.

The   union  warned that it would embark on an indefinite strike if the affected authorities failed to implement the court judgment after the warning strike.
