New power minister resumes


The new Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, on Thursday resumed duty at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

He was received by the Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, and some other officials of the ministry.

Wakil, who was one of the new ministers sworn in by President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, described the new development in the power sector as an unprecedented progress and unrivaled transformation in the Nigerian history.

He said, “The quantum of investment and turn around in the generation, transmission and distribution sections of the power sector attest to the determination of Mr. President to provide sustainable electricity supply to Nigerians.”

He noted that a lot had been done in the power sector and promised to key into the agenda of the ministry.

“I know a lot of work has been done and I promise to key into the agenda as a team player to drive a better understanding by Nigerians of the  progress in the power sector,” he said.

The new minister also commended the minister, the permanent secretary ,management and entire members of staff of the power ministry for pursuing the implementation of the power sector road map.

In his remarks Nebo described the posting of Wakil to the ministry as God’s will, adding that the task before the ministry was a “difficult one and requiring youthful energy the new minister will provide.”

He explained that the transformation was making history in the power sector, adding that Nigeria would soon be celebrating the success of the power sector.

Nebo said, “Just know that anytime they took light ,they will think of Wakil.You will also be our striker at the National Assembly anytime we are been tackled. I also assure you that we are a team player. I believe in team work.”

The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Godsknow  Igali, called on Wakil to inject youthful energy into the power sector for more results.
