Assailants pluck woman’s eyes in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command said three persons attacked and plucked the eyes of a woman in Dass Local Government Area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the woman was on her way home from a coronation when the incident happened.

He said, “We received a report from Dass Police Division on March 1, 2014, around 11pm, that one Zainab Mohammed of Yelwan Dawani Village was attacked and two of her eyes removed by three unknown persons inside the bush at Lukshi Village.”

The police spokesman said detectives attached to the Dass Police Division immediately went to the scene and rushed the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention.

The PPRO said investigation was in progress and efforts had been intensified to get the fleeing suspects, who left the victim in a pool of blood, arrested.

In a related development, armed hoodlums on Monday night abducted  a member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

It was learnt that the lawmaker, Yusuf Nuhu, representing Lame Constituency in the Assembly, was abducted in his house in Zalau Village, Toro Local Government Area around 7pm Monday.

The kidnap of the lawmaker is coming barely 24 hours after three polio workers were abducted in Darazo Local Government Area.

While the abductors had released two of the detainees, the third person, the Health Officer of Darazo Local Government Area, is still being held.

Confirming the lawmaker’s abduction,  Mohammed, said, “Following a report we received on Monday night that unknown gunmen had abducted a lawmaker, Yusuf Nuhu, the police swung into action.”

“Due to hot pursuit of the miscreants by the police, the suspects abandoned their vehicle, one green Golf 3 wagon at Rahama village, a border town between Toro and Saminaka of Kaduna State, and took the lawmaker into the bush.”

The PPRO further said a team of joint police and vigilance groups had cordoned the entire area in order to arrest the culprits.

On whether the kidnappers had demanded for any ransom, Mohammed said, “l don’t know anything about that.”
