Amosun urges students to actualise dreams

The wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has urged students not to give up on their dreams, urging them to develop their skills and talents so as to succeed in life.

She said this at the 8th edition of “We Are the Future of Our Nation” programme organised by Edumark Consults in Lagos, on Wednesday.

“Students should get their education right before venturing fully into other things of interest to them and they should focus more on developing themselves rather than depending on white collar jobs after school,” Amosun said.

The organiser of WATFON, Mrs. Yinka Ogunde, said the aim of the programme was to inspire patriotism, celebrate role models, promote unity, and to help SS3 students make their career decisions wisely.

She added that the programme was designed to raise worthy successors for the present generation in spite of the numerous challenges in the country.

Other guests at the event included wife of the Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mrs. Folasade Adeoluwa; former Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Dr. Leke Pitan; The Managing Director of Sahara Group, Mr. Tonye Cole; Mr. Jimi Agbaje; legal practitioners: Prof. Taiwo Osipitan and Mr. Tayo Oyetibo; Mrs. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu and Nollywood actress, Stephanie Okereke-Linus.

Pitan encouraged children to put up polite argument when parents try to choose or impose courses on them – provided they are sure of their conviction. He also charged government at all levels to initiate programmes that could help students make informed decision in their career.

In separate reactions, other guests at the event commended the organiser of the programme but condemned the rate of corruption and insecurity in the country while urging the students to remain focused. The students were drawn from Lagos and Ogun States.
