Access Bank moves to boost oil, gas sector

Access Bank Plc has said it is collaborating with CWC Group, an international non-governmental organisation known for creating opportunities and developing knowledge, to host this year’s Nigerian Oil and Gas Strategic Conference in Abuja.

The bank said the move was in furtherance of its commitment to the development of the economy.

The annual conference, organised under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation with sponsorship support from the private sector, continues to be the industry’s must-attend event.

The programme, according to the bank, attracts participation from both local and international key decision makers; featuring distinguished speakers, participating companies and exhibitors from the entire oil and gas value chain.

Now in its 14th year, the NOG conference has proven to be the most veritable engagement platform for policy makers and operators in the sector.

A statement by the bank said the conference would be opened by the Minister for Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who will deliver the state of the industry address with leading political figures, national and international industry leaders in attendance.

The Access Bank Group Managing Director, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, will join other industry experts to deliberate on how to overcome the challenges facing the growth of independent and indigenous producers and service providers in the oil and gas sector and ways of supporting them to overcome the challenges.

The session will also evaluate the fiscal environment under the proposed PIB and its impact on independent producers among other issues such as funding for the acquisition of divested assets and incentives needed to increase the number and prominence of Nigerian-owned stakeholders.

In recent times, the bank said it had increased its support for local and international operators through series of funding arrangement, intermediation and advisory services.

Specifically, NOG 2014 will address the steps the country must take to evolve and maintain its position as Africa’s leading oil and gas producer amid increasing inter-continental competition and how the Nigerian industry as a whole must address the crippling impact of oil theft.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga; Senior Associate, CWC Group, Dr. Alirio Parra; Special Adviser to President on Petroleum Matters, Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah; Director-General, Budget Office, Dr. Bright Okogu.

Also, major industry operators like Nigeria LNG, Total, Chevron, Shell Exploration and Production Africa, Oando, ExxonMobil, Bell Oil and Gas, Expro, Total E&P, Capital Oil and Gas, Halliburton, Department of Petroleum Resources and Afren are conference sponsors and participants.
