Kaduna health workers threaten indefinite strike

Officials of the health workers in Kaduna State under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Associations/Unions  on Thursday threatened to begin an indefinite strike from March 1, 2014 should the state government refuses to meet their demands.
JOHESU’s Chairman, Mrs. Cecilia Musa, who addressed a press conference  at the secretariat of the union, said strike remained the only option open to the union to push for the implementation of the balance of  30 per cent Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS  being an unfulfilled promise by the state government.
She added that a meetings between officials of the union and the state government on February 3, 2014 and February 25, 2014 were deadlocked, adding that based on this, the union had no other option than to ask its members to down tools  until the government responds to their demands.
She noted that based on the failure of the government to implement the CONHESS salary scale, the union leaders met with members and  resolved that the health workers in the state  should  continue with the earlier suspended strike as from midnight of February 28.
