Dennis Bergkamp says he hopes to return to Arsenal one day as a coach.
Bergkamp, who now serves as Frank De Boer’s assistant manager at Ajax, wrote himself into Gunners legend with 120 goals in 315 games over 11 years in north London.
And having been greeted by chants of ‘Sign him up!’ at the unveiling of a statue in his honor outside the Emirates Stadium, the Dutchman insists he would love to come back to Arsenal in the future.
“It was great to hear that the fans want me to come back,” Bergkamp told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad. “But it’s not the right time. I have a family with four children and we have just started something at Ajax.
“I am not in a rush. But one day I will return to Arsenal.”
Bergkamp also raised the possibility of fellow Arsenal legends Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira joining him at the Emirates Stadium to guide the next generation of Gunners stars.
“Maybe we will all return together, just like we did with a couple of former players at Ajax,” he said.
