Five crushed to death in Lagos

At least five people lost their lives along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos  after a truck ran into some bystanders on Tuesday.

Our correspondent learnt that the bystanders were on the Oshodi Oke bridge when the vehicle ran them over.

It was learnt that over seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The accident, expectedly, caused a gridlock for hours as officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, led by Commander Koleosho, raced to the scene to save lives.

It was learnt that LASTMA officials worked at the scene for over three hours in a bid to ensure traffic flow.

It was learnt that the petroleum truck sped off after crushing the victims.

An emergency official said, “Around 7.45, a petrol tanker coming from Anthony inward Mile 2, crushed five bystanders along Oshodi Oke bridge to death.

“The truck also injured over seven others. Most of the dead victims had crushed skulls but we were able to evacuate their bodies.

“A woman we even rescued died on the way to the hospital. It is really pathetic and the driver did not also stop.

“We don’t know if the accident was caused by a sleeping driver or brake failure but we are warning people not to stand on that bridge as there is no busstop there.”
