BlackBerry fights back with new handsets

BlackBerry’s new handsets, of which  Q20 is flagship, have been launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, in an effort to restablish the brand as a premium smartphone maker.

The Z3 will first go on sale in Indonesia in April in what could be seen as an attempt to capture emerging smartphone markets.

The touchscreen device has been “designed with Indonesian customers in mind”, according to the company, and features a 5” display, the largest screen a BlackBerry handset has boasted to date.

The Q20 is the more business-focused of the two handsets, and retains a full QWERTY keyboard and integrated trackpad, which John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry, said were included in response to ardent BlackBerry customers’ preference of hard buttons and trackpad.

“I want these customers to know that we heard them, and this new smartphone will be for them,” he said. “Today, we’re delighted to announce the new BlackBerry Q20 smartphone, which is designed to give you the distinct experience that every BlackBerry QWERTY loyalist and high-productivity business customer absolutely loves.”

BlackBerry has yet to release images of the Q20 handset, but it will feature a 3.5” display and will be made available towards the end of the year.
